Where are you based? How did you end up there?
Haverhill, MA. Moved back after driving around the country for 5 weeks after leaving a job in Florida.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
The Baker’s Rack Baking Company is a custom cookie and dessert company, based in Haverhill, MA. I started this company back in 2018, when I left a bakery job in Newburyport. I had taught myself to do custom cookies (before they were cool), and when I left, all of the clientele from the bakery was asking for them. So the bakery sent them to me!
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Having financial and time freedom! I love being able to take time off and travel whenever I want. Having a flexible schedule, and not having to worry about money!
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
When my dad told me that I wouldn’t be able to buy a house because he didn’t think The Baker’s Rack generated enough income, after I left my serving job in November of 2019. Covid happened, and The Baker’s Rack blew up. I closed on my home at the end of June of 2020.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
Clients that don’t read contracts, information, or invoices, as well as competition.
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
Sometimes you just need to take a step back, and realize how lucky you are.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
The first time someone I didn’t know ordered from me. And, when an insurance agency sought me out by name because they wanted to work with The Baker’s Rack.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
I’m Rachel. I’m 33, and a newlywed. I like to grow my own food, raise our chickens, and be outside at our home. I love to travel, and have a goal of visiting all 50 states. I value good handshakes, hard work ethic, and honesty.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
We just launched an Edible Photo Booth! No one is doing this.
