How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?

3 years

Where are you based? How did you end up there?

I am based out of Winchester MA. I stumbled upon this group from a client of mine who belonged to the group!

Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?

I am a Registered and Licensed Dietitian who helps women and men manage their weight and their health (think diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure etc.), through a holistic, non diet approach. I absolutely don't believe in diets for weight loss or weight management because I feel they get people back to where they started-with the weight gain, hungry and unsatisfied with their current health. I also feel diets foster disordered eating and thoughts.

What pushed me to start my business is that I very much wanted to look at the whole person rather than ``just their diet``. When I work with clients, I dig deep into WHY they eat the way they eat as well as HOW they eat. I am not only concerned with the ``what`` and ``how much``. Although my training in nutrition allows me to expertly work with people struggling with their weight and their health, the magic happens when we are looking at all aspects of their lifestyle which includes their sleep patterns and stress levels and how all these factors impact their weight. Then with clear action steps and ``smart goals`` that are super specific to them and how they live, can we start to see transformative changes.

What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?

My definition of success is to have a thriving private practice where I no longer need to work part time in an outpatient hospital setting which I do now. I would love for this business to be my primary source of income. My private practice allows me to do very deep and meaningful work which impacts people's lives beyond their diets, and I am very proud of that.

I want to continue doing the brand of coaching and counseling that digs deep into the root causes of why people continue to struggle with their weight and their health. I think I will probably reach the pinnacle of success if I am ever featured on the Food Network or even have my own show!

Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?

My most transformational moment was when my current clients continue to work with me for months, and some for years. This is when I realized that the work I do really has a tremendous impact on their overall health and wellbeing.

What was one of your biggest challenges in business?

One of the biggest challenges for me was understanding all the ``tech`` that went with a business. Setting up a website, the back end of my website, as well as getting all the foundational pieces in place which was a huge learning curve and something that daunted me. What was a blessing in disguise was that I started my business in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. This allowed my then 16 year old to help me set up my email marketing, my electronic medical record platform and help create and design beautiful email campaigns and social posts for my business. She was also able to take some beautiful pictures that landed on my website as well. The fact that school in 2020 was all via zoom, helped me out tremendously. Thank you Zoe!

How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?

Well, being an entrepreneur is not always a bed of roses that's for sure. Whenever I feel like giving up, I read a testimonial, an email or a message on my phone from a client thanking me for the work we have done together and how it has impacted and changed their lives. I have started writing quotes on cue cards from clients and then strategically place them in my office, where I can see them daily. This reminds me that the work that I do is worth it. I am touching and helping others in very deep ways and that allows me to move forward. Walking outside daily also helps me clear my thoughts and reset. I have a lot to be thankful for, so I try to remind myself of that each and every day.

How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?

It has been an amazing platform to not only help and educate others, but to also learn and gain insight and wisdom from other women. People are always ready to share and help each other, and that is incredible. I have also gained several private clients from this group which I am grateful for.

Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.

When I started my private practice. It was definitely scary and I wasn't sure if I could do it, but I went in head first and I am loving it!

Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?

I absolutely love and adore being around people! I love meeting new people and learning from them. My moto is: ``everyone has a pearl or wisdom to share, so listen up!``. My two kids Zoe and Alex are my pride and joy and I absolutely love being a Mother. I have been by their side every step of the way and I wouldn't change a thing about how I raised them. I affectionately tell my kids that I am a ``Professional Mom`` and that I need another set of business cards stating just that!

I also like to regularly lend a listening ear to friends and family that need my help or support. I believe it takes a village and if we are there for each other, we will always have a network of people to lean on for help and support which is why I love this group so much!

My favorite things to do outside of my practice is read fiction, travel and cook! I absolutely adore cooking for my friends and family. Food is love and I express that love daily. My parents owned a full service restaurant growing up, so I was always around good food and great people. My favorite thing to do in the mornings is whip up fresh from scratch chocolate chip pancakes, scrambled eggs and avocado toast for breakfast for my kids. There is always something cooking at my house 🙂

What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?

My special talent is the way I connect, empathize and deeply understand people which allows me to effectively find solutions to help them navigate through their struggles. It is the trust that I gain and my sincere and genuine desire to really listen to people that sets me apart. My approach as a dietitian is also different because I am not looking to ``solve the immediate problem with a prescriptive diet``. Instead, I take the time to truly and intimately understand a client's lifestyle and their process in order to look at what is truly holding them back. Only then can we look at solutions that can get them to their original desired goal (ex: weight loss). By looking at all aspects of their lifestyle (and making adjustments), we can get them to their goals as I like to call it ``through the back door``, without them realizing it. So, in the end, the process becomes natural and sustainable.

Where can we keep up with you? What social media platforms do you use the most?
