How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?
March 2023 so about 6 months
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
I'm based in Quincy because that is where I live. However my business is mobile and I serve most of Massachusetts, lower NH and upper RI.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
I've been obsessed with photography my whole life. I begged my parents for a camera and they gave me my first one when was 7-8 years old. I've been looking at life through a lens ever since. I went to college for photography (BFA in photography) and loved every second. Life got into the way though. I fell into another business I have been running for 26 years. I've continued to do photography all along in a low key way. I started my photography business as a side gig about six years ago. I've decided that it's now or never, so I'm ramping up my photography business in hopes it can eventually be my only business.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
I don't really have a concrete definition of success. Ideally, I'd like to make my photography business my only business. I will feel successful in my goal when I'm able to support myself solely on providing others with beautiful artwork for their walls.
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
For me it was figuring out how I want to serve my clients best. I feel I give extra, and I LOVE giving extra!
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
Right now it's finding time, and being patient with that time. I'm trying to build on one business while running another. I know it takes time to build up a strong client base and that is what I've been working on. I'm an extreme introvert so putting myself 'out there' has really been a challenge for me. But I'm finding the more I do it, the easier it is getting. It does take practice though.
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
Having a good support system is key. Being with like minded people has such value. Talking with others going through the same thing is definitely the best thing for me when I'm feeling really down. We can pump each other back up. I belong to a mentorship type photography business program and it has been so incredibly helpful for this. I'm hoping I can find something similar here once I get to know some members better.
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
I've gotten so many great ideas and have met some wonderful people. Even just reading through the Facebook posts give me knowledge and sweet little takeaways I can use to improve myself and my business. I'm looking forward to more connections in the future.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
For me, my proud moments come when I show my portrait clients their beautiful new artwork we created together. Seeing their faces, and knowing I helped them create something they will value for the rest of their days. I'm lucky that portraits only become more precious over time, so I know that initial 'wow' factor won't go far away. It's so powerful for me.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
I'm a single Mom to three, now grown adults. They are my everything. I tried my best to set a good example for them growing up, and I'm very proud of what I've achieved on my own. I also have three dogs I love to dote on, and a grumpy cat. They are spoiled and deserve it! I don't have much free time these days, but when I do I love to read and I'm 100% addicted to travel. Going new places, seeing new things and having new experiences. It's so rejuvenating for me. If I could have my way I'd spend half the year traveling the globe.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
I feel that I serve my clients on the highest level. From that first phone call to discover if we are a right fit until I'm handing them their new artwork to hang on their walls, or hanging it for them. I serve my clients from beginning to end. If you are looking for portraits we will get in depth on what you are looking for. We can even measure your empty walls in advance, use a clothing color pallet that matches your home decor. We discuss everything that will happen during your session. Your session will be fun and relaxed because you know what to expect! We always have a blast. I photograph families, newborns, children, couples, dancers, cosplay and pets. Did I miss anything? I love it all. Portraits are tailored to you and are unique, just like you! After the session we sit together and look at all the images and I am there to help you figure out exactly what art you want to hang on your walls. Don't want art for your walls? I have heirloom quality albums too. Canvas, metal or framed print? I have so much knowledge to help you along and prevent overwhelm. We can even take a picture of an empty wall in your home and with software I can show you what specific images and sizes will look like on your wall. Want to purchase a landscape print? I can offer you the same service, let's check out your walls and see what will look best, you don't even have to visualize it. I can show you! My art products are very high quality and built to last for generations. If you've ever had a portrait session and done nothing with the images because you were overwhelmed, didn't know what to order, or just didn't have the time - I am the photographer for you!
Where can we keep up with you? What social media platforms do you use the most?
My Facebook business page and Instagram. I'm also on TikTok.
