What is your Instagram handle?
What is your LinkedIn URL?
How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?
I am a new ICM, but have been in the Facebook Group for a couple of years.
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
I work from home in Westminster MA. We moved here from Leominster in 2019. I ended up working from home and starting my business so I would be able to stay home with my children and be available to them if they needed me.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
My company is called Design You Marketing. I build websites on the WIX platform for entrepreneurs that make them feel confident and excited to share with their potential clients/customers that reflect their vision, voice and brand. I provide tutorials and DIY support for those who like to edit their own websites. And, as a budget-friendly option for someone who may just be starting out, I also create WIX Website and Canva Social Media template packages for sale.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Success to me is being financially independent while having a healthy work/life balance and the time freedom to live life outside the office.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
The biggest challenge (by far) I've had is balancing work and being a mom. I'm sure a lot of moms can relate to that. Another challenge is riding the entrepreneur waves of one minute being creative, confident, and having it together and the next minute being confused, self doubting, and trying to figure out what I'm doing. haha.
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
I take a break and go out to lunch with my husband (aka business partner) and we talk it out.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
My proudest moment was last January when I was getting paid invoices coming in from the projects I did the prior couple months which made it my most lucrative month to date. The icing on the cake was that I got a couple of very heartfelt testimonials for the work I did as well. (One of them made me tear up). I want more of those months and I truly feel that my proudest moment has yet to come!
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
I spend my free time goofing around with my husband, taking care of my kids, and trying to have fun whenever I can. I would say I'm introverted and extroverted. I'm pretty content and patient when it comes to work and home life, but once I'm out in public with friends and family, I am super social and I'm there to chat, dance, and have a good time. I like going to see live music, playing golf, playing softball, going to the movies, going on vacation with my sisters, blowing off Friday afternoons to have a beer with my husband, exercising (love doing at home workouts and in the last year I've started running!) and watching my kids grow into their individual personalities.
I'm always myself; I don't try to sell things to people who aren't interested; I give advice that benefits the clients and not necessarily myself, I'm helpful and will go out of my way to answer questions; I've been taken advantage of by clients, but am learning the value of my time and the power of ``no``; I'm genuine and like to connect and work with others that are also genuine.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
I don't just build websites and offer website maintenance packages, but I help entrepreneurs by teaching them how to edit their own websites and take control of their digital marketing by providing tutorials and pdf guides. I also provide WIX Web Templates and Canva Social Media templates for entrepreneurs starting out that need a budget friendly option.
