How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?

About 2 years

Where are you based? How did you end up there?

In the Seacoast Region of New Hampshire. I grew up in New Hampshire, but have lived all over the USA and abroad. I was relocated back to NH for work (from CA) in 2012, and have stayed ever since.

Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?

We are an optimization and elevation firm; we provide top-notch executive assistance support as well as consulting focused on strategy, efficiency and operations for entrepreneurs and corporate Clients. We are on a mission to help entrepreneurs and corporate leaders holistically thrive in their businesses, honoring the person AND professional and setting them on a sustainable path for successful growth and greater satisfaction.

I left corporate at the end of 2019, and I gradually realized that I had been operating in chronic burnout for my entire 13+ year career. I decided then and there that I wanted to create a company where our culture was second to none, and to make lasting changes from the top down for my clients, and my Crew.

A common misconception in our society is that you have to suffer to be successful; we show leaders this absolutely does not need to be the case. Running a business in balance and alignment truly facilitates you claiming your space and authority as the Empowered CEO you want to be while elevating your company to new heights with high-caliber support. You get to do more of what you do best, and more of what you love, your business is optimized, and you are leading it from a place of greater joy and satisfaction.

What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?

I ask every single client I start work with ``What does joy and satisfaction look like for you in your business?`` The answer is always unique to each individual. For me, success is running a company that lights my fire, having my Crew and clients happy and fulfilled, leading my day-to-day life from a place of balance and alignment (with both my time and my core values), and achieving and maintaining financial freedom, so the business is supporting the life I want to lead, and the experiences I want to have, while also supporting my ability to be of service, pay it forward and make a lasting impact on others lives, and contributing to causes about which I am passionate. I'm grateful to say that I'm closer than ever to reaching all of these criteria for myself, and my business.

Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?

I'm not sure it was so much one moment, but a series of moments, where I had a realization - I was sliding back into my corporate, workaholic, perfectionist mindset, and that was NOT how I wanted to live, or work, anymore. I wanted to truly embody what I was telling my clients to do, and when I reevaluated how to delegate optimally and lean on my Crew a lot more, my business and my happiness soared. After bringing on more top-notch Crew members in 2022 to really support me in operating in my zone of genius as an Empowered CEO, I grew the business by 300% over the year prior! When I truly embraced my own advice, I took my company to new levels, and this is what we do for our clients.

What was one of your biggest challenges in business?

There are days when I am amazed at how just many challenges can possibly arise, but that's life! Being an entrepreneur is both an incredibly humbling and an invigorating journey. One of the biggest challenges I faced was relaunching my entire company after a rebrand, and running my company day-to-day during and after two excruciatingly painful surgeries for a ruptured Achilles tendon. The surgeries were about a month apart, and I was non-weight bearing for 13 weeks. My physical limitations and intense pain took a real toll on every aspect of my well-being. The road to physical rehabilitation and recovery has been long, and far more challenging than I ever thought going into it, but I have navigated it all with the help of my loved ones and my incredible Crew, and am stronger for it.

How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?

I actually wrote an article about JUST this very topic! It’s titled “Even Empowered CEOs Have Those Days.” You can read it here!

How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?

I enjoy the authentic community and have found that no matter the question or topic, someone is always willing to jump in and provide thoughts/feedback/help. It has also proven a wonderful lead generator for my business, and I have received several clients through networking within the group!

Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.

I'm not sure it boils down to just one moment; I think there have been several moments, and each one feels monumental at the time and inspires me to continue to challenge myself and grow as a leader, and an individual. I felt so immensely proud when my first co-authored book climbed to International Bestseller status within days after the book launch (and all proceeds from the book go to a charity called the MicroLoan Foundation, which is a social microfinance institution providing business loans and training to women facing poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, empowering them to start their own businesses). I also have had a goal to at least double my annual revenue each year, so I was over the moon to grow HBH & Co. by 300% this last year!

Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?

I live with my partner, Chris, and his two daughters (my bonus daughters), and my two feline fur babies (rescuing a canine fur baby is next). I absolutely love the ocean and animals; volunteering my time and resources to support both have always been important to me. I am also a speaker, a two-time international bestselling author, an avid sailor, and a 50 Ton Master Merchant Mariner Captain. I place immense value on integrity above all else, and that shines through in how I run my company, and in who I chose to align with in my life and business. I love experiences over material items, I love to travel, and I always like to have something on the calendar to look forward to. Something not many people know about me initially is that I also have dual nationality with Great Britain, and I grew up on a lot of cucumber sandwiches and tea! 🙂

What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?

For over 13 years, prior to launching my own business, I supported top executives and teams at companies such as Partners Healthcare, Brightcove, Inc., Novartis and McKesson. I most recently managed the office of the Chairman and CEO of McKesson (a Fortune 5 company at the time). Now as an entrepreneur myself, I leverage my unique experience and ``get it`` factor as an award-winning leader in my field. Along with my Crew, our combined 100+ years corporate experience with top (Fortune) companies means our clients benefit from our incredible collective experience when they work with us. Clients know that we're not only 'top-notch', but we're very intuitive, compassionate, high-touch, yet pragmatic in our approach. Our clients feel nurtured and uniquely supported, relieved and motivated, and know they can focus on the work that feels most heart-centered and/or mission-driven.

Handled. By Hayden & Co. is a business elevation and optimization firm, providing a unique approach to remote support and business development. My Crew and I utilize our combined experiences and expertise to provide top-notch strategy and high-caliber support for our clients in order to claim their space and authority as Empowered CEOs and create sustainable growth and holistic success for their businesses and lives. Our strategic consulting and executive assistant support services give our clients back the time and freedom to operate solely in their zone of genius and joy while delegating the rest. As part of my vision, my employees are empowered by playing an integral role in the company's mission and are holistically successful. I believe in a culture where everyone is appreciated and celebrated in what they do best!
