How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?
Not sure, I think on and off the entire time they've been in business 🙂
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
Boston. I met my now husband on a beach in Portugal, while I was living in London and working in FX Money Brokering. A year later I asked for a transfer to New York City's Wall Street, and another year later I moved up to Boston. I had quit my job by then and started my Pilates brand and business.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
In my business coaching and consulting practice, I work with service-based entrepreneurs ready to revolutionize their businesses - increasing profits while creating more freedom and growing effective teams. Coaching saved my life; it helped me overcome depression, allowed me to manifest my husband on a beach in Portugal, grow two award-winning businesses, and so much more. When I asked my then-coach if she thought it was a good idea for me to start my coaching business, her answer was: ``Absolutely - you're living proof that coaching works.`` Since that day, I've coached hundreds of people, primarily entrepreneurs, who wanted to find joy and passion for their businesses again while also making more money. It's been an honor and gift to work with these business owners and watch them soar!
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Having time to enjoy my life and spend time with loved ones and travel. If I'm too busy to walk my dog -- I'm doing something wrong in my business.
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
Realizing that hustling and pushing so freaking hard was killing my business and learning that slowing down and resting sped up my business growth. I still work with lots of focus (and from the outside it may look like I'm hustling) but the energy in which I show up and run my business is much different.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
Permitting myself to start doing business my way. This may not seem like a challenge -- but we're so conditioned by social media and society to think that there is a silver bullet or roadmap to success out there. I've met and started working with so many entrepreneurs who broke their businesses and burnt themselves out because they followed someone else's step-by-step opinions. And I get it because that used to be me as well. Once I realized that the best blueprint for my success and joy was locked up inside me, it set me free and accelerated my business growth (while working and worrying less.)
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
On tough days it's so easy to focus on all the challenges and discount our progress. So, I try -- I don't always succeed but I try to look at my progress. All the accomplishments and wins over the years. That usually helps me to shift my frame of mind and gain back my motivation to keep going.
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
I've met many wonderful women over the years and it has helped establish a great referral network for my business.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
In 2023 my coaching practice will celebrate its 10th year in business -- which is a proud moment. Winning the Best of Boston award for best life coach was definitely another very proud moment.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
Oh gosh, so many things. I value building deep connections with a few people. I love walking -- I'm THAT lady with the hand weights walking around your hood. In the spring, I love being out in my garden. And in the winter, I love that my business allows me the flexibility to work from warm places like Florida or South Africa (where I was born.) I also love reading a good book, having high tea, and getting all glammed up for it. And at night, I love playing cribbage with my husband while our puppy's snuggled up on my lap.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
I would say experience and certifications. Very few coaches have completed coaching certifications and/or have a strong business background. And even fewer have built two award-winning businesses themselves. Business runs deep in my veins, my dad was an accountant, and I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Business. I've worked in various business divisions, from accounting to sales, and ended up as a broker on Wall Street in London and New York. As an entrepreneur I built two award-winning businesses in under three years. I combine my business and entrepreneurial experience with my coaching expertise, leading to clients' outstanding results. And now my clients get even more value when they sign on to work with me, as I've also recently become a certified exit planning advisor -- which means that along with everything else I help clients to accomplish, we're also now ensuring that they're building a sustainable business that can be sold at top dollar in the future.
