Less than a year
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
Lexington, MA. Both co-founders live in MetroWest Boston, making this the ideal location.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
Elena co-founded Flyte.70 in 2019 with Carolyn Barber and launched it publicly in December 2021. Flyte.70 is an age-positive makeup brand that creates color products and formulations designed to work with the natural changes of aging skin. The brand uses responsibly sourced ingredients, emphasizes toxicology and sustainability, and is Plastic Neutral, with most packaging using PCR and FSC-certified paper. Flyte.70 promotes responsible shopping, the pro-aging movement, and products that celebrate women at every age.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Success is the culmination of hard work, hustle, and sleepless nights resulting in something bigger than the brand itself. For Elena, it’s being part of a movement that shifts societal standards around aging and beauty.
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur.
Being featured in the May 2022 issue of Harper’s BAZAAR in an article on age-inclusive beauty, alongside Bobbi Brown. It was validating and affirming that Flyte.70’s purpose and mission were being recognized.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
Balancing personal and professional challenges amid breast cancer, a global pandemic, economic volatility, supply chain issues, and societal division.
How do you handle the harder days?
Elena draws strength from her sense of purpose, knowing the Flyte.70 message resonates with women and supports them in feeling confident and celebrated.
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
Elena is new to BBW but looks forward to connecting with a strong local community of women supporting each other, regardless of business size.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
Being featured in Harper’s BAZAAR and recently taking a public stance on women’s rights and gun violence, supporting her audience in a meaningful way despite potential risks.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
Elena enjoys photography, family time, cloud meditation, shopping small, music from the 80s & 90s, good food, art, design, and learning about people. She values connection, creativity, and purpose.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
Flyte.70 takes a pro-aging stance with products that work for mature skin. Its modern, whimsical packaging, inclusively aged models, and bold approach to beauty challenge societal stereotypes for women over 40.
