Sudbury, MA. I grew up 5 miles away 🙂
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
I owe my inspiration and my name to my mother. Sometime during my teenage years, she began calling me, ``Buttercup.`` For as long as I can remember, my mother has mailed handwritten notes or paper hugs as she calls them. Notes of encouragement, birthday wishes, thank you notes, condolences, etc. She sends so many notes that there is always a stack of cards stamped by the front door to go to the mailbox.
On Valentine's Day of 2020, I got a call from my mother that my father had suddenly collapsed and was rushed by ambulance to the ICU. He had no known health issues and was an active 70-year-old man who enjoyed sailing and walking his dog several miles each day. My father spent 48 hours on life support before we had to say goodbye. We were shocked and devastated.
While these were the hardest days of my life, I was constantly reminded of the love around me. My girlfriends showed up for me. They watched my children and my dog. They delivered food, flowers, cards, wine, you name it. They checked on me daily. They were and still are the BEST.
As we continued to grieve, COVID-19 entered our lives, and we all remember how difficult 2020 was. Many of my friends were struggling. They felt isolated and frustrated with home schooling. It was my turn to send some love back. I began creating and mailing them inspirational cards. I quickly realized how a small gesture like a handwritten note to a loved one could make ME feel happier. Buttercup was born!
Buttercup boxes of love sends love while promoting self-love.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
My definition of success is spreading kindness doing what I enjoy.
``Those who are the happiest are those that do the most for others.`` -Booker T. Washington
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
When I was featured in Fairfield County Lifestyle. I was so excited to be featured in another state! Soon after, orders came in from all over the US.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
Finding the right balance between all the things that come with being a business owner. My first year, I tried to do it all alone. Collaborating with other women and asking for help has been a game changer!
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
On a hard day, I will look back and think about some of the women that have received support boxes from Buttercup. These are strong women that are going through really hard things like chemotherapy or the loss of a loved one. This reminds me why I started this business and why I will keep going.
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
I have connected with so many amazing women ``boss babes`` that inspire me daily! We lift each other up and make real genuine connections with one another.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
Getting to witness so many women support one another makes me feel proud. I feel so lucky that I get to see the good in people each day when I write their gift messages of support and encouragement.
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
I love spending time with my family and friends and snuggling with my dog, Sasha. I love animals and being outside. Goat hikes, horseback riding, dog walks.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
My boxes are typically self-care and support based. My mission is to spread love and positivity.
