How long have you been a Boston Business Women member?
About a year
Where are you based? How did you end up there?
Salem, MA - my accountant suggested the group.
Tell us more about your company! What do you do and what pushed you to start?
I help women heal from the effects of sexual assault/abuse and trauma through a skills-based approach to therapy.
What is your definition of success? How do you know when you’ve reached it?
Success is when my clients are able to feel more in control of their thoughts, feelings and lives. Success is when my clients are able to feel calm, in the moment and more relaxed. Success is when my clients are able to feel a sense of safety and trust in their relationships.
Tell us about your most transformational moment as an entrepreneur?
I have the good fortune of seeing my clients transform all the time. The therapy I provide is very structured and skills based, meaning people learn how to make themselves feel better. And, it can happen relatively quickly, so transformation is something I get to witness all the time.
What was one of your biggest challenges in business?
It has been very hard to get my message out there - seeking trauma therapy can be very difficult & emotional for people, and often they don't know who to turn to or where to look. So, finding a way to get my message to people has been an interesting journey.
How do you handle the harder days? The struggles? Those moments when you feel like giving up?
I remember that what I'm doing is helping people. I get to watch people heal, grow, and become their fullest selves....and on the extra hard days, my dog is a huge comfort to me!
How has being a Boston Business Women Inner Circle member positively influenced your life + business?
I'm very excited to join a community of women where we can support each other.
Tell us about your most proud moment in your career.
I have so many proud moments. I get to feel proud on a daily basis. Today, I feel proud of my clients who are taking the brave step to return to school!
Who is the woman behind your business? What does she like? How does she spend her free time? What does she value?
I am very passionate about helping women reach their full potential by overcoming the pain of trauma. I know that trauma is a fully treatable condition and if someone is giving the right tools and supports, they can truly heal. I deeply value hard work and want to always learn, so continuing my education has been central to my career. Also, I love to balance my life with my personal time.
What makes you stand out from others in your field? What do you do differently?
I use a highly structured approach to therapy where I teach my clients the skills and techniques they need to make themselves feel better. This is a very proactive approach to healing where clients are in charge of their recovery because they learn the skills and then practice applying them; this allows them to achieve long-lasting success because then they're not reliant on me to always make them feel better, instead, they learn how to make themselves feel better. Also, I use a research-backed approach to therapy, one that has been proven successful many times over. I also have all of my clients routinely complete an assessment tool so that we can track and monitor your recovery. You'll know exactly what we are working on together because the structure I provide, and you'll know exactly how well you're doing because we will track and monitor it!
