BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Lucie Wicker, Commercial Photographer

What is your name?

Lucie Wicker.

What is your occupation?

I am a commercial photographer specializing in fitness, lifestyle, and active brands.

What is your business name?

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than 1 year.

What is your instagram handle?

What is your linked in URL?

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

Yes, I was born and raised in Jamaica Plain. Now I live in Cohasset on the South Shore.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

I started working with members of the fitness community in Boston in 2011. My first photoshoot was with a rising Pilates instructor, Jenn Phelan, who helped me out with an environmental portrait project for the photography program I was in. She loved the photos and used them to promote the classes she was teaching. My career took off from there!

Since then I have worked with fitness instructors, personal trainers, activewear brands, beverage companies, health coaches, nutritionists, gyms/studios, and business owners of all kinds. I love the niche I'm in and the amazing clients who have hired me over the years. The photography business has changed so much but I'm still loving it after all these years!

What would your clients say about you and your company?

'When my clients show up for a photoshoot, they are usually pretty nervous at first. I do my best to create a calm, relaxed environment which I've been told is appreciated! I'm not just taking photos; I'm doing what I can to build confidence too.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

N/A

What is your favorite book?

This changes! Most recently ''The Searcher'' by Tana French

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

An organization method I learned recently is to do things in small amounts - if you have an entire room to clean, start with one section. If you have a lot of things to do in a week, focus on the next day. I am a big fan of lists! By breaking up tasks into bit-sized pieces, I feel significantly less overwhelmed and it helps me focus.

What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?

The past year I've been investing in my business for the first time in a while - from a new logo to networking groups (like BBW!) to a business coach. I probably should've done it a long time ago! I've also been taking the time to find my people and it has made all the difference.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be patient and get organized. Sometimes things take time but there are so many small things you can do to move the needle.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Haha, what free time?? I love beach days with my kids, lunch dates with my friends, and working in the yard with my husband!

What is something that not many people know about you?

I am a generally upbeat person but my favorite songs are heart-wrenching breakup songs. They move me most!
