BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Nicole Nault, Director of Development, United Way of Greater New Bedford

What is your name?
Nicole Nault
What is your occupation?
I am a Director of Development.
What is your business name?
How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?
Less than a year
What is your instagram handle?
What is your linked in URL?
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
I was born and raised in Wareham and I now work in New Bedford, but I’m excited to connect with members throughout the Greater Boston area.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I’m the Director of Development for United Way of Greater New Bedford. Our mission is to mobilize people, partnerships, and resources to catalyze change that strengthens the communities we serve. I’ve always loved volunteering and supporting my community, so a career in nonprofits was the perfect choice for me. I started working in development for Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts (another great local nonprofit!) right out of college, and after three years I got the opportunity to become Director of Development for United Way of Greater New Bedford.
What would your clients say about you and your company?
Nicole loves raising money to support an organization that does so much good for the community around health, education, financial stability, and basic needs.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
You don’t know what you don’t know, so never stop learning.
What is your favorite book?
A Wrinkle in Time
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
My not-so-secret weapon is my phone. I use it for everything personally and professionally – connecting with people, staying on track with my calendar and to do lists, and more.
What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?
I worked on a campaign to help my town secure funding to build a new elementary school. It’s a huge win for the community and I’m proud to have been part of the team that made it possible.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
1. You’re not afraid of failing; you’re afraid of other people seeing you fail. You’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish once you stop worrying about what others think. 2. The degrees, the jobs, the success – it’ll all come in time. So stop trying to rush everything and just enjoy where you are right now.
How do you enjoy your free time?
I spend most of my free time with my family and friends – playing tennis, riding ATVs, and just enjoying the outdoors. I also love watching Patriots games and attending all kinds of sporting events.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I started karate at three years old and became a third-degree black belt before high school.
