BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Caitlin Perry, Photographer, CP Photography

What is your name?

Caitlin Perry

What is your occupation?

Photographer

What is your business name?

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

What is your instagram handle?

What is your linked in URL?

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

Yes.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

I started off my career as a PR and Marketing executive and left the corporate world after my first child was born. He suffered a stroke during birth and developed a life-long medical condition known as hydrocephalus. I needed to stay home to take him to his weekly doctors appointments and therapies. As he grew, the demand for appointments lessened and I started putting my hobby of photography to use by taking photos of him and our yellow lab. It truly helped me stay sane during those long hours at home and kept my mind off all the medical stuff my husband and I were dealing with. Soon friends started asking me to take picture of their kids and then I decided to turn it into a business in 2014. Today, the little business I started out of my son's playroom is thriving and I recently opened a studio space in Waltham, MA.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

I am fun and I like to laugh. I bring my silliness into each session hoping to get lots of laughs and smiles out of everyone - adults included. Getting your photo can be awkward for some people so I find talking to clients and being silly helps easy everyone's mood.

What is your favorite book?

Hmm...tough one because I love reading. Anything by Emily Grffin or Jennifer Weiner. I just bought ``When Life Gives You LuLulemons`` by Lauren Weisberger, hoping to read it while on vacation this summer!

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

Lists! I live by lists. I just wrote one last night to prepare myself for camp and summer school drop off. Grocery lists, daily lists, client lists, the list (ha) goes on 😉

What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?

Opening my studio space and being able to stay afloat during the pandemic were two huge wins for me. I was also recently featured on Boston Moms Blog :).

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. When I was younger I was so shy, I had a really hard time finding my way in the PR & marketing industry. It wasn't until I found a job that I was passionate about that I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and really start moving forward toward my goals.

How do you enjoy your free time?

At the beach, traveling, spending time with family & friends, oh and target....most definitely target 😉

What is something that not many people know about you?

I've always wanted to write a book...still working on that goal!
