BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Lisa Sigman, Attorney, Nobles & Sigman

What is your name?
Lisa Sigman
What is your occupation?
Attorney
What is your business name?
How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?
1 year
What is your instagram handle?
What is your linked in URL?
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
I was born in CA, but raised in the Boston Suburbs since I was a baby.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I am a partner at Nobles and Sigman, a woman owned law firm, where I work as a primary care attorney for small businesses - my passion and focus is working with women owned and operated businesses. Fun fact - I decide to change careers and go to law school after seeing Legally Blonde!
What would your clients say about you and your company?
I would hope that they say working with me and my firm is easy and enjoyable - maybe even fun! Lawyers have a reputation for being inaccessible, impersonal, intimidating. I work hard to buck that stereotype by being a team player with my clients and making sure they understand what we are working on.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
During my divorce my mother observed that I was trying to ``fix`` everything all at once and that I couldn't do that. I try to remind myself of that every time things get hectic - I just need to handle one thing at a time.
What is your favorite book?
I love fiction and my all time favorite is Contact by Carl Sagan.
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
I joke that I am a slave to my digital overlords. I use my phone, Alexa, anything I can to remind me of appointments, schedules and deadlines. That way I don't miss something and I clear space in my head for other things to think about.
What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?
I’ve been working with my amazing coach, Caryl Mix, and have really gotten my systems in place – tracking, streamlining my work flow, etc. – and I am set to nearly double my revenue from last year without doubling the time I am spending on the work.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don't make decisions based on fear - the choice you make is never the right one when that is the basis.
How do you enjoy your free time?
I prefer to collect memories than things at this stage in life, so experiences and events like travel, concerts, even sitting around a fire with friends is my free time fun!
What is something that not many people know about you?
I worked as an MRI technologist right out of college, during law school and after. I just retired this past March after 20 years in the field. Yes, I did that while I was an attorney!
