BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Kristen Chiusano, Home Stager and Decorator, Kit Easton Designs

What is your name?

Kristen Chiusano

What is your occupation?

Home Stager and Decorator

What is your business name?

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

What is your instagram handle?

What is your linked in URL?

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

Nope, I was born and raised on Long Island. College brought me here. After graduation from Stonehill, I never could give up the New England life. I moved back to NY for a little while but ultimately returned to Boston to start my grown up life.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

While working as a teacher, I noticed that my stress relief was interior design. I also began to notice that I was really good at it. I started documenting my new hobby and after getting great feedback and a couple of clients, decided to get certified in home staging, started Kit Easton Designs and turn my passion into a career. It was the best decision I ever made! Kit Easton is a home staging studio in Medford, Ma. We own and store all our own furniture and design pieces right in Medford. We pride ourselves in sourcing from local artist and small shops to support our fellow small businesses and highlight the artisans that makes Boston so special.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

Here is a review: Kristen's attention to detail is amazing. She has the ability to turn an empty room into a beautiful space that potential buyers can see themselves turning into their dream home. Kristen's designs are stunning and the furniture and pieces she chooses for each project are carefully curated depending on the location and style of the home. She is consistently working with local artists and small businesses to include their work in her projects, and the transformation that occurs in a space after Kristen designs it is truly stunning. Bonus: not only is she talented, but she's a pleasure to work with! I would highly recommend Kristen and all of the design services she offers through Kit Easton Designs.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Follow your gut. Simple but true. My mother taught me that my intuition rules and I don't owe an explanation beyond that to anyone. However, it comes with the reminder that others don't owe you an explanation for their intuition either. I try to live by both those rules.

What is your favorite book?

James and The Giant Peach. I remember the day I read it as a child (in one day because I couldn't put it down).

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

Hand written ``To Do Lists``. There is nothing like physically crossing off a task.

What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?

I recently had a buyer fly across the country to see a property I staged because they fell in love with the photos!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Honestly, I would tell her to stop trying to get everyone to like her. When I was younger I felt like being liked was the ultimate goal, even being liked by people I didn't like. Now I hope the best for everyone but I spend my time and energy on people who deserve it.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Chasing my children. I wish I had a cool hobby but truthfully I just try to keep up with my 1 and 4 year old and when they go to sleep I drink wine and watch trash television.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I am an 80's music junkie. I try to stay hip and young but after hours of childhood sing alongs in my mom's car my actual favorite band is The Cure.
