BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Alexis Simmons, Self employed with Rodan + Fields Dermatologists

What is your name?
Alexis Simmons
What is your occupation?
Self employed
What is your business name?
How long have you been a Boston Business Womenβs Member?
Less than a year
What is your instagram handle?
What is your linked in URL?
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
Nope! But Ive been here for 2 years and love it!!! I moved because I do a LOT of work within medical communities, and there is no greater medical area on the East Coast than in Boston π I decided to have an adventure and move here on my own in 2019 for the medical connection AND because I LOVE history.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
As an individual franchise owner with Rodan + Fields Dermatologists, I work closely with clients who want to avoid steroids or invasive routes in skincare, yet want to gain the same level of change on their skin. Focusing solely on acne, sensitivity, sun damage, and anti-aging, I work one-on-one with individuals to find out what their skin is hungry for, what their skin history is, why they may be experiencing the problems they have, and give them a plan of action (with ingredients, not just our brand) at the center of my suggested solution. After having intense acne in my younger years, I made the decision to focus on helping others when so many doctors failed to help me. I am determined to raise confidence in all my clients using skincare as our vehicle. After 10 years, I have so many amazing self-esteem stories to share, including my own!
What would your clients say about you and your company?
Well, considering we have a 96% re-order rate (people who stick with us once they try it) and less than a 1% return rate (we allow everyone to try everything for 60 days with a full money back guarantee) I like to think that means people really love us π As for working with me, I aim to be the best friend in skin that no one knew they needed until they found me, HA! So most of my clients have become personal friends, which I hope says great things about the company as well.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Actually, it was from a quote Kristina posted a few weeks back!!! I LOVED that she mentioned ``Nothing in nature is rushed, yet everything is accomplished.`` This speaks volume to me to have patience in a world that has forced us to slow waaayyyy down recently.
What is your favorite book?
The Shack...or Ella Enchanted (who doesnt love the idea of princesses and unicorns, haha)
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
My PAPER calendar! I love circling, dotting, crossing out, and staying physical in my planning.
What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?
I was recently asked to speak for a dermatology summit through Mayo Clinic...which felt like the highest honor ever considering I am completely self-taught. (So many dermatology handbooks read in the past 10 years, haha.)
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Do ALL the things. Dont let someone tell you you cant.
How do you enjoy your free time?
Working π HA! Or hiking and being outside with friends.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I have traveled to 32 countries and lived in 4 of them π
