BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Irene Mavie, Yoga Therapist, My Holistic Yogi

What is your name?
Irene Mavie
What is your occupation?
Yoga Therapist
What is your business name?
How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?
Less than a year
What is your instagram handle?
@iren_emma
What is your linked in URL?
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
Boston always felt like the middle ground between Europe and the US. Combining the best from both sides it absolutely is a place that I love!
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I was a business communication coach for many years, working with corporate clients and feeling the pressure their under. Over time, I found that I felt more inclined to listen to them and offer an anxiety relief. I went back to school to become a psychotherapist. After working as a therapist I decided to specialize in trauma. During my trainings I found yoga as a modality to help with stress, anxiety and trauma. After incorporating it to my practice, I felt that I was helping more with yoga than traditional therapy. So at some point I decided to only offer yoga therapy and I have been loving my work ever since.
What would your clients say about you and your company?
I feel grateful when my clients tell me that they finally feel better. It takes time for sure, but after a certain point each person has told me that they have felt the benefits in their lives. Nothing compares to that!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Still waiting for it!
What is currently your favorite book?
The Great Gatsby
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
Breathwork! For sure when I need to calm my mind (or heart race) I always go back to the basics and do some breath exercises. Works like a charm every time!
What is your most recent WIN? How are you slaying it in your career or business?
I have been working 101 since forever, so this year I started offering group sessions. It's a transition for me but it feels great to connect in a different way!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Sleep more! This might sound weird but in your twenties you can afford the time to get some good sleep!
How do you enjoy your free time?
I'm either outside playing with my dogs, or inside reading a book with my cats.
What is something that not many people know about you?
While I travel a lot (or at least I used to) I'm actually quite afraid of flying 😛
