Aimee Hughes

What is your occupation?

Human Resources

Less than a year

What is your instagram handle?

What is your linked in URL?

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

No, my Mom is from MA. I grew up in VT and made my way to Boston via PA, France, my Masters and then London. My husband fell in love with the area and Marblehead in particular, and MA is really where we wanted to raise our children.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

I am the VP of HR at Cabot Properties. I did my MA in International Relations and Business and found myself working for a multinational educational company in Cambridge doing operations. I transferred to the London office which was much smaller. I took on a split operations/HR role and loved both sides of the business. When we moved back to the US I took on another split role working at a large international Architectural and Engineering firm. After I had my first child, I was lucky enough to return to work part-time, and I chose to focus on the HR part. I worked part-time in and around having my daughter and happily enjoyed a true work/life balance when my kids were really little. Recently, I decided I was ready to push myself and take on a new challenge. I had become complacent in my job and my work was perfunctory. I was lucky enough to have a good friend's husband introduce me to the CFO of Cabot Properties, and I became the VP of HR in June of 2019.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

Cabot Properties is one of the most human companies I have ever worked for. They are truly committed to the people who work there and to contributing to the communities in which we work.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

``This too shall pass.`` my Dad often repeats this phrase to me and it's been a mantra, everything is a phase, so enjoy what you can even in the middle of the tough ones!

What is currently your favorite book?

A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

Self-Care....if you can't take care of yourself, you aren't able to give your best to anything.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

It sounds cliche, but don't sweat the small stuff. Be true to your authentic self, others will follow.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Traveling! Or, on the mountain or at the beach with my husband, two kids, and dog.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I'm a kick ass cancer survivor and chronic illness warrior.
