Boston Business Women

BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Michelle Keefe, CEO of MomUp

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

What is your Instagram handle?

@momupco

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

I was raised in Brockton, lived in Washington, D.C. during my early adult life when I started my first company, and then moved to Boston 12 years ago.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career.

I saw so many talented and highly educated women in my community who stepped out of their careers for a few years to be at home, and when they wanted to return to work, they struggled to know where to begin or how to find access to quality opportunities.

I created MomUp to provide that access point — connecting women with interesting and flexible work. The women in our network bring incredible value to companies, and MomUp strives to connect this exceptional talent pool with great organizations.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

We are very hands-on and deeply involved in the process of matching the right individual with the right position. Companies trust our vetting process, knowing that we only present top candidates. Our network of moms also knows how dedicated we are to finding quality, flexible work opportunities.

Many women are overlooked by automated job systems, and companies are missing out on valuable talent. We make sure both groups have the best chance to connect and thrive.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Stop worrying about public opinion and just go for it.

What is your favorite book?

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen

What is your secret weapon?

My love of systems — whether it’s a calendar, HubSpot, or an organized home — I love it all.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Listen to yourself and trust your instincts. Don’t let fear stop you from accomplishing your goals.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Spending time with my husband, three kids, and our dog — whether we’re at the beach, skiing, or traveling together.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I’m a yoga teacher.
