Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
No — I was born in Brockton, MA, moved to Martha’s Vineyard in high school, then returned to Boston for graduate school at Northeastern University and eventually settled in North Andover.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career.
For 10 years, I worked as an IT Project Manager. After getting married and starting a family, I found the commute and daycare schedule overwhelming and decided to take time off to stay home with my two children. During that time, I started making jewelry, attending craft shows, and selling wholesale to gift shops — which eventually inspired me to open my own gift shop in 2005.
What would your clients say about you and your company?
They’d say Rose & Dove is their “happy place.” Our customers always comment that they know they’ll find the perfect gift when they visit. We offer a variety of gifts for everyday occasions at affordable price points and consistently go above and beyond for our customers. Their loyalty and dedication to shopping local have kept us thriving for over 14 years.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
If you fail, don’t be afraid to try again. Every situation gives you an opportunity to make the next one better, learning from the mistakes you’ve made.
What is your favorite book?
Honestly, I haven’t read a book in a very long time! One of my goals for 2020 is to take more personal time to do things like that.
What is your secret weapon?
Merchandising and creating themed vignettes.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Take more time for yourself. Try to leave work at work and not let it consume you 24/7.
How do you enjoy your free time?
Spending time with my family, skiing, or boating.
What is something that not many people know about you?
My real name was Raquel Welch until I got married and legally changed it to Kellee Twadelle.
