BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Chelsea Bell, Gordon’s Director of Marketing & Events.

BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW: Chelsea Bell, Gordon’s Director of Marketing & Events.

What is your name and occupation?

Chelsea Bell, Gordon's Director of Marketing & Events. I organize large scale events, seminars and dinners, host private wine tastings, and handle all the marketing initiatives for beverage retailer, Gordon's Fine Wines & Liquors.

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

What is your instagram handle?

@cbellvino

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

I was born in Boston and moved to Gloucester, MA at the age of 5 (which is where the majority of my family resides).

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

Gordon's Fine Wines & Liquors is a family-run, 86 year old retail-chain which is a destination for the Northeast's finest selection of fine wine, craft beer and spirits. I developed a passion for wine while working for the retailer, Best Cellars while attending Northeastern for my undergraduate degree in Communication Studies. This first experience working in wine retail was transformative because I realized my passion for wine education and hospitality. Every day since then has been a learning experience, which I am extremely grateful for.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

My clients would say that I approach every interaction with passion, dedication and unbridled enthusiasm. This attitude is especially important as many view wine as unaccessible and enthusiasm works as a bridge to developing a better understanding. Giving our clients the very best possible experience through hospitality and expert knowledge sets the company up with lifelong customers and longterm success which is always the goal for a multi-generational business. Gordon's has developed a loyal group of customers because of their amazing access to the very best product at very fair prices, and of course our knowledgeable staff.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Sometimes you have to say no... I have always been a people pleaser with a very positive outlook so historically I have said yes to things which I either could not commit to fully, or that were not the right fit. I have been working hard to commit to the right opportunities that I can fully dedicate myself to, but it is still a work in progress.

What is your favorite book?

BossyPants by Tina Fey!

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

I am always a huge fan of checklists (for my professional and personal life). I love using Wunderlist for myself and as an organizational tool for others. There is nothing more gratifying than checking off a to-do!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Believe in your self-worth. I think as women we tend to give ourselves a really hard time constantly second guessing our decisions and comparing ourselves to others. It takes a lot of strength to discover and acknowledge your self worth and stand up for yourself personally and in business.

How do you enjoy your free time?

I love exploring new restaurants (and wines), nature excursions, wine travel (domestically and abroad) and family time in Gloucester!

What is something that not many people know about you?

While many know me as being super bubbly, and extroverted, I am naturally more of an introvert and actually need to work really hard to bring the inner extrovert out to play!
