BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH: LaKenya Kopf, Virtual Tech Assistant

What is your name and occupation?

LaKenya Kopf, Virtual Tech Assistant

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

What is your instagram handle?

@kopfconsulting

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

No, I am a Southerner - born and raised. My husband retired from the military and we agreed that New England would be a great place to call home.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

Kopf Consulting alleviates the headache and stress of trying to juggle the high-end tech tasks when running your own business. Online Software and Social Media platforms change every day and while we absolutely love the challenge and exposure, some of our clients find it cumbersome and would rather spend their time doing something they love (like closing clients). As far as what lead me to the career, I would say my children. I actually love being part of the corporate ``rat`` race but found it difficult to be available when my kids needed me. Between holidays, summer school, and illnesses - it became increasingly impossible to meet the demands of my job and the needs of my children. By working for myself, I am the boss and I clearly communicate to my clients that my kids are priority so if something comes up, I can be there for them.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

My clients would say I am dedicated, communicate effectively, and think outside of the box. They would say my company is run with full transparency and Kopf Consulting strives to not only meet but exceed expectations.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Set boundaries and stick with them. If people see you waver, you will become a pushover.

What is your favorite book?

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

My calendar. If it isn't on my calendar, it doesn't exist. My calendar allows me to be all things to all people: available to my kids, organized for my clients, and efficient for my business.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Stop giving up so easily! You will be amazed at what you can accomplish if you just keep going.

How do you enjoy your free time?

Free time? Now your just making things up! Kidding, I enjoy reading or surfing Hulu/Netflix (if my children allow me personal time which rarely ever happens).

What is something that not many people know about you?

I absolutely LOVE cheesy 80's movies and the classics. Some Like It Hot is my all-time favorite.
