BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH: Marika Adamopoulos, Brand Photographer

What is your name and occupation?
My name is Marika Adamopoulos and I am a brand photographer!
How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?
Less than a year
What is your instagram handle?
@marikalimited
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
Yes, I was born in Boston, grew up between Boston and London, England, and then moved to Southern California! I am back in Boston building my network as I travel between all three locations and beyond serving clients.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I always thought I was going to be a lawyer. I loved photography, but as a hobby, and never imagined it would turn into a career. When it became clear that I was meant to pursue photography, I was excited, but still a little lost because I couldn't see myself as a wedding photographer forever (what I was doing at the time). Then, social media entered the scene and our culture radically changed, emphasizing visuals in a whole new way and creating space and opportunities for creatives to build careers like never before. I was able to do an internship in university as a content creator for Instagram, and that spring, I new what I had to do! I hit the ground running after that internship as a brand photographer, and now I get to serve companies all over the world! Some of my clients include Sameul Adams, F45 Training, Facial Works, and Kendra Scott!
What would your clients say about you and your company?
My clients say I am bubbly, reliable, and professional. I have a reputation for excellent work, a fast turn around time on edited images, and exceptional communication. Clients often turn into friends because we create an environment that is safe, fun, and engaged!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Two things: 1. Listen to your life; you already have the answers you're looking for. 2. Say the second thing that comes to mind.
What is your favorite book?
How can I say just one?! The Hard Thing About Hard Things, The Law of Divine Compensation, Woman Code, Anna Karenina.... I could keep going!
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
My secret weapon is my physical planner! If I don't write 'it' down, 'it' doesn't get done.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Wow. I would tell little Marika to work on being more flexible, to be more gracious yet more cautious to and of others, and to get to know herself sooner.
How do you enjoy your free time?
I like to spend my free time cooking, reading, watching comedy shows, listening to podcasts, playing the piano, painting, spending quality time with friends, and exploring new restaurants and coffee shops!
What is something that not many people know about you?
I am a classically trained pianist and was the leader of a band for 5 years!
