BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH: Dr. Bonnie Wims, Mental Health Professional

What is your name and occupation?

Dr. Bonnie Wims, Mental Health Professional

What is your instagram handle?

@drbonniewims

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

I moved to Boston from my home town of Denver, Colorado when you husband took a new job and I began to reinvent myself from working in the health insurance industry to going back to school.

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

I feel like I always knew I wanted to be a Psychologist but “real life” prevented me from going to school right out of high school. I finally received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology in London, England where I lived for 7 years. I love being present for my clients and allowing them to feel validated and heard. Working with clients primarily online has allowed me to provide more convenient and cost effective counseling.

What would your clients say about you and your company?

In feedback clients often say that they feel I am supportive and present. However, they also say that through this trusting relationship we build together they are better able to challenge themselves to look at potential areas that are blocking their own progress in whatever area of their life they feel needs work.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Get up every day and do the work with love.

What is your favorite book?

Right now it is The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

Such a good question. I just keep thinking it is me! I love people and I love working with people to feel heard.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t waste time! Follow your dreams!

What is something that not many people know about you?

I cry easily.
