BBW MEMBER INTERVIEW WITH: Shayna Mahoney – Holistic Life Coach

What is your name and occupation?
Shayna Mahoney, Holistic Life Coach
What is your instagram handle?
@shaynamahoneyxo
How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?
Less than 1 year
Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?
Yes, but I live on Cape Cod now.
Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I have personally struggled with anxiety since a very young age. At 12 years old, I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and depression. I was prescribed an antidepressant that I took off and on for 10 years. During my first semester of college, my dad took a medication to lower his cholesterol and became disabled. I began researching adverse effects from prescription drugs and was shocked by all of the stories. I decided I wanted to learn more and enrolled in nutrition school while also getting my degree in human development. Since then, I have transformed my own physical and mental health while inspiring other women to do the same. I offer private coaching, retreats, products and more to help women find hope through their anxiety so they can reach for their dreams in both business and life!
What would your clients say about you and your company?
One of my clients shared that I am like her lighthouse: ``I was like a boat lost in a storm, and Shayna was like a lighthouse showing me the right path. I had to put in the work to get to shore, but it was Shayna's light that guided me in that direction.`` I've been told that I have a gentle and holistic approach to help my clients embrace their unique selves and motivate them to make positive changes. I try my best to walk my talk in order to inspire others, but I am also honest because perfection doesn't exist!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
To ask for support in life and business.
What is your favorite book?
Louise Hay: You Can Heal Your Life
What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)
My planner! I love to write and even though I use my phone calendar, it's nice to jot down my ideas for the week. I always start it with how I want to feel, ie. grounded, connected, joyful, etc. This helps me to plan accordingly and create space, rather than just focusing on work.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Slow down! You're valuable even when you're not working. Enjoy yourself and your loved ones.
How do you enjoy your free time?
Walking my dogs, reading, going to the beach, yoga, singing, and spending quality time with my family and friends.
What is something that not many people know about you?
I am highly sensitive and introverted! Over the years I have practiced public speaking and been more open on social media. People always have a hard-time believing me when I tell them I am actually shy and a home-body.
