Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

The Law Offices of Nicole M. Bluefort is a general practice law firm with office locations in Lynn and Downtown Boston. Our firm focuses in the area of family law, probate, criminal defense, and estate planning. The irony is that I never set out to work for myself. After graduating law school in 2010, I started my term as a judicial clerk at the Massachusetts Appeals Court working for the First African-American to be appointed to the Appeals Court, Judge Frederick Brown. After I finished my term, I started looking for work, and was getting interviews, but not landing any offers. After three months of being unemployed, I took a leap of faith and created my own opportunity. I started my own law practice. As a solo practitioner, I had an informal mentor, another attorney, who took an interest in me and who hired me part-time while I was getting my practice off the ground. Through trials, tribulations, and many lessons learned, I built a successful law firm team in a short period of time and have been in business now for 6 years. As my firm was growing at a rapid pace, I became very visible in the community. I was on television ADs, billboards, and people started to recognize me. This visibility coupled with the growth of my firm led to being appointed by Governor-Baker as a Trustee for the North Shore Community College. In addition, I recently received two national awards: National Bar Association’s ``Top 40 Under 40 - Nation’s Best Advocates`` and The Network Journal’s “40 Under Forty Achievers” Award.``

What would your clients say about you and your company?

They would say that I’m very genuine, and have a way of simplifying the law, so that they can easily understand their options and make the best decision for their situation. They would also say that I am passionate and aggressive in my defense. My clients call me, “The Pit Bull.” It’s a compliment; pit bulls are strong, loyal, kind, and very protective!

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

You have to pace yourself. I’ve always been accustomed to going hard all the time, but it’s important to find a balance.

What is your favorite book?

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

What is your secret weapon? An app, a tool, a organization method, anything?! (Can be a personal or professional life tool)

Wendy, my personal assistant. She is fantastic! She does everything from calendar management and travel arrangements to writing speeches, planning conferences and managing my social media and brand presence. At my level, having a reliable, smart, and skilled assistant is crucial. She keeps me focused!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t be discouraged by failure. The highway to success will have many failures. You need failure to succeed.

How do you enjoy your free time?

I like to stay active in my community whether it’s mentoring young people , serving food to the homeless, speaking at local events and schools, or visiting children at the hospital. Community service is a big part of my life. I also enjoy running, skiiing and golfing.

What is something that not many people know about you?

I play the flute!
