Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?
I currently run a wedding and portrait photography company. I focus on authentic visual storytelling. I call on my experience working in documentary film to tell honest family and love stories. My background and degree is in film production and I had to take photography in college. After college I went on to work different jobs in and outside the film industry. When I moved back to Boston a friend asked me to help him shoot a wedding. I agreed and had the most amazing experience. I was hooked and decided this is what I wanted to do. I started reaching out to other photographers in the area to assistant and learn about the industry. What I learned through starting my photography business is that I am drawn to working for myself and get a sense of fulfillment from it that I never really felt before. It's exciting and challenging. I've also found that I thrive in talking with other entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs. I want to inspire other people to go after the career of their dreams regardless of where they are in life. That's why, along with photography, I 'm working to develop a community work/play space that will allow parents to pursue their entrepreneurial and career goals while providing their young children with a safe & structured play area. I'm really excited about this new venture and I can't wait to share how it develops with the BBW community.
What would your clients say about you and your company?
My clients tell me often how easy I am to work with. That they love that I'm able to capture the genuine moments in of their days and am able to make the feel at ease in front of the camera.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
``Let go, Let God``. My mom use to say this to me when my anxiety got the best of me. Life is filled with uncertainty and thats ok. It's a reminder to just have faith and surrender control.
What’s your favorite book?
Right now, it's You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I've probably read it 4 times already.
What’s your secret weapon?
Planoly for business has been great for keeping me on top of posting on Instagram. As long as I remember to go through and preschedule my posts. Personally though I LOVE Instacart! I have two young kids and I'm trying to run a business. Grocery shopping is such a time suck so I love having a service that I can just shop online and have someone else pick it all up. I've been using it for a year and have had a great experience so far.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Stop trying to have it all figured out. Life is fluid and can change on a dime so be open to all the possibilities. Allow yourself to learn from every experience and if something isn't working it's ok to walk away from it & change your plans. Just stay motivated, driven and positive.
