BBW Member interview with: Ariel Szabo, Realtor

What is your name and occupation?

Ariel Szabo, Realtor

What is your instagram handle?

@ya.boston

How long have you been a Boston Business Women’s Member?

Less than a year.

Were you born and raised in Boston? If not, what brought you here?

I was born and raised in Cambridge and Boston. I’ve been here ever since!

Tell us more about your job or company and what led you to your career?

I have always loved people and am fascinated with how and why we make decisions. I enjoy solving problems, being my own boss and desire the flexibility to pursue my other passion: printmaking. All of this led me to a career in real estate. As a career real estate agent, I get to guide you through the biggest decision of your life: buying and selling a home. I don’t take this lightly and nor should you when selecting a realtor. Think of it this way: I am your advocate, teacher and cheerleader as you move through your real estate transaction. I am your biggest and most dedicated ally. I love that every day is different. Each real estate deal brings a new set of personalities, circumstances and problems to solve. I strive to make every transaction simple, seamless and stress-free. I get to wear my hats. In any given day I am showing property, scheduling appointments, fielding emails and phone calls, conduction research, educating clients and helping them work through their anxieties, prospecting, developing a new marketing campaign, writing a blog post, and posting on social media. It keeps me on my toes!

What would your clients say about you and your company?

Here is what my clients have to say about working with me: ``Ariel was extremely patient” | ``She was a wealth of knowledge and unafraid to ask the tough questions to get us the information we needed to make informed decisions” | ``Ariel is willing to spend the time to listen deeply to her clients’ individual needs. Her advice was always spot on.” | ``I was particularly impressed at how responsive and available she was.” | ``Ariel is professional, process driven with a strong sense of urgency in representing her clients. I especially appreciate a transparent, responsive, consultancy driven approach.” | ``Her knowledge, preparedness and professionalism are extraordinary.” | ``Ariel was engaged and personally vested in succeeding on finding my perfect place.”

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

``What’s another way to think about it?`` It's so easy to take things personally, or to project our own assumptions and limiting beliefs onto any given scenario we are struggling with. This question pulls me out of my emotions to look at all the possibilities and angles, and ultimately helps me solve any problem and move forward from any situation.

What’s your favorite book?

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami

What’s your secret weapon?

Asking for help when I need it and getting a good night of sleep EVERY night.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Comparison is the the of joy - leave it at the door!

What is something that not many people know about you?

In 2016, I developed facial paralysis from a benign facial nerve tumor. Over the past year and a half I have undergone tumor removal, two facial reanimation surgeries and hours of physical therapy to learn to smile again. Although it has been a physical and emotional struggle in many ways, developing facial paralysis is one of the best things that has happened for my confidence. It forced me to inspect and discover where my self-worth comes from, and it has nothing to do with my appearance. I certainly have moments where I grieve the loss of my big toothy smile and facial symmetry, however, I like the person it has made me much more.
