5 Tips to Health and Wellness Through the Winter
DRINK WATER! – The cold outdoor air and indoor heaters & roaring fireplaces can dry out your sinuses and skin. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water each day! Using humidifiers and skin moisturizers throughout winter can keep you feeling replenished. Also, instead of picking up a cup of hot chocolate or a whole milk latte to keep yourself warm, try an herbal beverage like green tea with honey.
STAY ACTIVE – With the days getting shorter and the snowy days upon us, be sure and get up and out of the house and your office for some much needed exercise. If hitting the gym isn’t your style, stretching at your desk or walking on your lunch break might be the perfect fit. If you find it hard to get motivated to exercise in winter… think of Spring and how much harder it is to get back into shape rather than maintain your fitness throughout the winter.
This is the perfect time to close your eyes, breathe... close out the world and focus on the self.
EVERYTHING IN MODERATION – I know it’s easier said than done, but if you want to enjoy your food and drink this winter, try to implement some impulse control. Enjoy all of your favorite foods, but eat them slower and in smaller portions. And if you want to enjoy the Holiday party and the next morning too? Do NOT over-indulge in alcohol. No one wants to be the drunk gal or guy at the party at our age. Eat, drink and be merry, but do it with grace.
DE-STRESS WITH MEDITATION – Between the bad weather, the seasonal pace, work and balancing your home life ta boot, your stress meter is bound to spike! This is the perfect time to close your eyes, breathe… close out the world and focus on the self.
WASH YOUR HANDS – This is probably the most obvious advice in the world, but a friendly reminder never hurts, right?! Washing your hands throughout the day is one of the MOST important things you can do to stay healthy. It stops germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community. If you can’t get to a sink to wash with warm soap and water, keep hand sanitizer handy all day and make sure to use it, particularly before you eat, touch your eyes, nose, mouth etc… You don’t realize how many germs you come into contact with on a daily basis and just being more mindful of hand cleanliness can really make a difference!
